Why is James Hansen Still Employed?

NASA physicist Dr. James Hansen has a long and colorful record. He was born and raised in Dennison, Iowa in which he received all three of his degrees at the University of Iowa. According to the biography on his website, while attending school Hansen took an interest in the science and research done at James Van Allen’s space program. Upon graduating he studied Astrophysics and Astronomy in Japan and when he returned to the U.S. in 1967 he gained employment with the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) which he now heads.

In addition to a well credentialed background in climate science, Hansen is also an adviser to former Vice President Al Gore in which he consulted on the science for the movie An Inconvenient Truth. Hansen is not only a scientist, consultant, and bureaucrat, he is also a hardcore environmental activist. He has been arrested on multiple occasions for activities related to environmental issues. The first time was in 2009 with actress Darryl Hannah when the two protested with environmentalist groups over a mountaintop removal mining in West Virginia. He was arrested in front of the White House for the same issue in 2010. Hansen was arrested in 2011 and six days ago in front of the White House again this time protesting the Keystone Pipeline.

Worst of all he has defended environmentalists who have conducted acts of sabotage. In 2008, Hansen flew to Great Britain to testify at a jury trial on behalf of Greenpeace activists who were on trial for vandalizing a coal plant arguing that its emissions had contributed to rising sea levels and the extinction of 400 species. Thanks to his testimony all six defendants were acquitted. What should be of further concern is not only Hansen’s activism on the taxpayer dime and defense of vandalism but how he is willing to resort to manipulating science to achieve his goal of eliminating not only fossil fuels but all forms of industrialization. In 2011 most of GISS’s thermometers located in Canada used to measure world global temperatures have had their data tampered with giving the impression that the world is warming more than cooling.

During August of last year, Hansen was quoted by the Canadian Broadcast Company that there is increasing amounts of drought that is related to global warming. However, a response by former Virginia State Climatologist Dr. Patrick Michaels tells a different story:

Hansen claims that global warming is associated with increased drought in the US. This is a testable hypothesis which he chose not to test, and, because PNAS isn’t truly peer-reviewed for Members like him, no one tested it for him.

I have [examined] drought data [that] are from NCDC, and the temperature record is Hansen’s own. His hypothesis is a complete and abject failure.

This in addition to a number of other instances where James Hansen has misrepresented the facts regarding global warming coupled with his anti-industrial activism Hansen’s statements should be give pause to anyone regardless of their views. For example, a few years ago he equated the shipping of coal by train to how Jews were shipped to concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Consider other comments he made in 2009 about coal making comments modified comparing the shipment of coals on trains to the Jewish Holocaust:

Coal is the single greatest threat to civilization and all life on our planet … the dirtiest trick that governments play on their citizens is that they are working for ‘clean coal’. The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death.

Hansen has also advocated putting oil company executives on trial for crimes against humanity and nature for spreading (in his view) doubts about global warming and climate change. In an interview with the UK Guardian he in 2008 said:

When you are in that kind of position, as the CEO of one the primary players who have been putting out misinformation even via [organizations] that affect what gets into school textbooks, then I think that’s a crime.

As a result of all of Hansen’s recent high profile activities, a group called the American Tradition Institute (ATI) is seeking documentation related to his receiving $1.6 million in outside, direct cash related to his activism. The group also alleges that Hansen has broken numerous policies related to the agency’s code of conduct and the Hatch Act. More specifically, through the FOIA request ATI is looking to resolve litigation the group initiated due to NASA’s initial refusal to comply with a public inquiry for financial documents related to Hansen’s activities.

Regardless if Hansen’s activism has gone so far as to draw the ire of his colleagues. In 2009 James Hansen’s former boss at GISS Dr. John S Theon stated Hansen embarrassed NASA with his claims on climate changes and (despite his statements to the contrary) was never censured:

Hansen was never muzzled even though he violated NASA’s official agency position on climate forecasting (i.e., we did not know enough to forecast climate change or mankind’s effect on it). Hansen thus embarrassed NASA by coming out with his claims of global warming in 1988 in his testimony before Congress…

I suppose it makes sense that James Hansen has become more vocal in recent years since President Barack Obama’s election. One indication that the President will refuse to prosecute causes the Left supports is when Attorney General Eric Holder refusal to prosecute New Black Panthers after they publicly announced their putting a bounty on the head of George Zimmerman. An activity that, to his credit, even Jesse Jackson condemned.

James Hansen’s activism not only demonstrates his hatred of civilization but also his willingness to lie and manipulate the truth in order to achieve his goal(s). I resent my tax dollars paying for his activities especially since he is obviously using his title and office as a means of promoting his anti-human crusade. The underpinnings of environmentalism romanticize peasant life and that is the level of living Hansen and groups like Greenpeace wish to reduce mankind to a caveman like existence. In 2008 one NASA administrator stated he felt it was time for Hansen to go citing numerous instances of him flagrantly disregarding federal employment policies. Because of his activities, his ignoring his employer’s policies, and regardless if Obama is protecting him Van Jones’s termination after a public campaign sponsored by Glenn Beck to sack him makes it clear no one is immune from public pressure. I plan on contacting NASA and calling for Hansen’s termination. I ask you do the same.

Climate Depot Refutes Obama’s Warmophobia

Climate Depot offers a refutation of Obama’s climate hysteria in his Stat(ist) of the Union speech.

President Obama: But for the sake of our children and our future, we must do more to combat climate change….

MIT’s Dr. Lindzen: Future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early 21st century’s developed world went into hysterical panic over a globally averaged temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree, and, on the basis of gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to contemplate a roll-back of the industrial age.

President Obama: Yes, it’s true that no single event makes a trend. But the fact is, the 12 hottest years on record have all come in the last 15

Climate Depot Response: Obama is ignoring the climate elephant in the room. Global temperatures have essentially been flat lining for 16 years now. The halt in global temperatures has shown up in multiple data sets and peer-reviewed literature.

President Obama: Heat waves, droughts, wildfires, and floods – all are now more frequent and intense….

Climate Depot Response: Sorry Mr. President, you are not entitled to your own set of facts. See: Meteorologist Dr. Ryan Maue: ‘Are climate scientists bothered that President’s speech on ‘extreme weather’ climate change doesn’t jive with the last IPCC SREX report?’

Global Warming Less Severe than Feared

A panel of Norwegian scientists have concluded that global warming was less severe than originally thought. It states that the warming trend seen since the 1990′s resulted in scientists overestimating temperature change in which there is no danger come 2050.

After the planet’s average surface temperature rose through the 1990s, the increase has almost leveled off at the level of 2000, while ocean water temperature has also stabilized, the Research Council of Norway said in a statement on its website. After applying data from the past decade, the results showed temperatures may rise 1.9 degrees Celsius if Co2 levels double by 2050, below the 3 degrees predicted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

“The Earth’s mean temperature rose sharply during the 1990s,” said Terje Berntsen, a professor at the University of Oslo who worked on the study. “This may have caused us to overestimate climate sensitivity.”

The findings also show the effect of reduced airborne particulates from burning coal, which may decrease the cloud cover that cools the earth, probably has less of an impact on climate through indirect cooling than originally projected.

Ultimately, global warming is a benefit to many people and, as I have pointed out, including the habitat of the environment. With the President’s call for more action on global warming news like this is not going to be welcomed by him since this news means he cannot argue for making new environmental policies. Earth’s climate is always changing and it’s time to stop thinking it is entirely the result of human activity as well as no longer worry about weather conditions elsewhere.

Barack Obama: Born in the U.S.A.

Drudge Report has just reported that Sheriff Joe Arpaio will soon release evidence proving that President Barack Obama’s birth certificate is 100% forged. This is so ridiculous it is laughable. The claims by Arpaio have already been debunked in a detailed study refuting his office’s assertions point-by-point. In his study, researcher Frank Arduini points out the PDF image of Obama’s certificate (not the certificate itself) was altered.

The Obama birth certificate conspiracy originated from World Net Daily media mogul Joseph Farah. However, like the U.S.S. Liberty conspiracy, this is another lie that deserves to die. The fact is that Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen in which he was born in Hawaii. He was not born in Kenya, nor has he ever been a Muslim.

I do not like Barack Obama but my reasons for disliking him are based on differences in philosophy. If Obama is to be stopped it will be with the right ideas and not with stupid conspiracies speculating about whether or not he is a U.S. Citizen (which he is).

UPDATE 01/29/2013 – Arpaio’s birther-in-chief Mike Zullo states the evidence proving Obama’s birth certificate is a forgery is coming soon (whenever that is).

Jeb Bush 2016?

One personality that has gotten some attention as a potential Presidential candidate in 2016 is former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Despite allegedly taking a break after finishing two successful terms as Governor of Florida, Jeb has stayed close to Republican politics, public policy, and educational initiatives, respectfully. Though I like George W., whatever misgivings anyone may have about his brother George’s Presidency, I think Jeb Bush would make a fantastic candidate for President and an excellent Commander in Chief.

I realize many people may not have the stomach for another Bush to occupy the White House due to the unpopularity of W. However, a review of Jeb’s record as Governor of Florida, speaks for itself. While Governor, Jeb supported numerous school choice initiatives, slashed state government spending and taxes, was and has been a staunch supporter of international trade and immigration as well as the War on Terrorism. My misgivings about Jeb (and they are few) are his opposition to abortion, his handling of the Terry Schiavo case, and Jeb’s signing legislation blocking development of the Florida Everglades.

While people may complain that it was the latter years of his brother’s Presidency that nearly ruined the Republican Party, if Jeb’s past and present actions are any indication, he has a record of party and consensus building which the GOP needs. Jeb’s political career started as Chairman of the Dade County Republican Party in which thanks to his skills, Bob Martinez was elected Governor of Florida in 1986. He also put himself up to run the campaigns of two candidates who got elected to Congress.

Bush proved so popular while in office he was the second Governor in the state’s history to be elected to a second term despite having been defeated when he first ran in 1994 against incumbent Lawton Chiles. Jeb Bush enjoyed high poll ratings throughout his 2 terms as Governor and left office as a very popular Florida Chief Executive. I would not be surprised that because of Jeb’s popularity that Florida Republicans rode his coattails to grab control of the state’s legislature or he had a hand in helping secure a G.O.P. lock on the state’s government.

The ruining of the U.S.’s economy is squarely on the shoulders of President Barack Obama. Whatever George W. Bush’s failings for the U.S. economy (and he does bear some responsibility), people across the political spectrum (including Obama’s supporters) are seeing through the President’s charade. Republicans will defeat Democrats in key Congressional races in 2014 and I think the GOP will (and should) capture control of the U.S. Senate. If Bush decides to run he may take some initial heat due to his association with George W. but, ultimately, I think Jeb will be able to distinguish himself. The polices that people did not like about Jeb’s brother and father are not reflective upon him and, as opposed to his brother who comes across as being reserved, Jeb is not only personable but is very intelligent.

Prior to getting into politics, Jeb worked his way to where he is now. He may have had some help from his dad or due to his name. But if he was assisted in some way by his father I can’t find any evidence of it. If his record in the private sector and as Governor of Florida is any indication, Jeb works hard no matter what job he takes and he is successful for it.

I have also seen news stories stating Newt Gingrich was thinking about running but I doubt he will since I think Newt’s 2012 run hurt him badly in the end. If Jeb Bush runs for President I will support him wholeheartedly. Like Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher did with their predecessors, I think Jeb Bush would be the right man to reverse the socialist direction of the Obama Administration.

Obama, Oprah, Postmodernism and Suffering

One day during 2006 I was flipping through the television channels and happened upon the Oprah Winfrey show. Her guest was (then) Senator Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Oprah was the most powerful woman in the world back then but as a result of taking her show off prime time television and starting her own network her influence has slumped dramatically. However, it wasn’t just her business decisions that were her undoing. I would dare to argue that her delving into politics and becoming a defacto spiritual guru prior to her doing so contributed to her iconic demise.

A 2002 article published by Christianity Today rightly described Oprah’s influence as a spiritual figurehead:

Oprah’s most significant role has become that of spiritual leader. To her audience of more than 22 million mostly female viewers, she has become a post-modern priestess—an icon of church-free spirituality.

The article also points out that Oprah was able to borrow from the televangelists of the 1980′s, yet her appeal was a masterfully repackaged version of accessible religious liberalism. In a profile of her spiritual appeal The New York Times published an article in 2011 giving an overview of her work. One sociologist interviewed observed that Winfrey borrowed from the thought of Christian evangelist Charles Grandison Finney who included elements of emotionality and focus on justice in his firey sermons from the pulpit.

Futhermore, Winfrey’s rhetoric and spiritual focus looked to relieve suffering making articulate cases that such experiences were desirable and necessary similar to how many evangelical preachers would deliver their sermons. Prior to her change of focus from television talk show host to up-and-coming televised New Age spiritual mentor she had attended Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church in which Oprah later left his congregation stating she was not comfortable with the tone of his sermons. Yet if one pays close attention her speaking style is similar in many ways to Wright’s minus his anger-filled rants.

The start of her decline as a New Age figurehead began with the tragic deaths of six people who attended a session hosted by Sweat Lodge Guru James Arthur Ray whom she promoted. Ray was indicted in 2009 for the deaths of six attendees to his spiritual warrior weekend that involved participants who paid $10,000 a piece for a weekend get-a-way in Sedona, Arizona. The event concluded with attendees housing themselves in a enclosed tent heated with an open fire in order to achieve a sweating effect that was alleged to help cleanse a person’s body. Ray often childed those who wanted to leave and upon completion of his events, he would usually convince people to attend more expensive functions.

I was struck by the observations of The New York Times article I mentioned earlier which states:

While respecting Ms. Winfrey’s use of her Christian heritage, Dr. Illouz ultimately concluded that the talk-show host might be something of a false prophet. That is because, she said, Ms. Winfrey and her cadre of self-help experts treated suffering as something beneficial. Ms. Winfrey turned the black church’s ethos of self-reliance in the face of suffering into an exaltation of suffering itself.

Taking this paragraph into account, Oprah’s endorsement of not only New Age religionists makes sense but even her embracing Barack Obama. Since the United States is experiencing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, the stagnation of our economy and joblessness is an extension of the suffering Ms. Winfrey embraces. I doubt very highly that Oprah will distance herself from Obama similar in many ways to how she did not distance herself from people like James Arthur Ray.

Winfrey came out in favor of Obama in 2006 before he even announced his intention to run for President. Small wonder after doing so more openly in 2007 that her ratings started going down. Now, upon becoming President, not only have Obama’s policies largely contributed to the economic slump we are experiencing, but the joblessness and other hardships people are going through are an extension of her view that it is a way to spiritually redeem ourselves.

Obama’s continuous attempts to dodge reality or even take accountability for his actions is observed not just with his lies about Mitt Romney but even Obama’s policies. During an interview on the David Letterman Show, Obama asserted that there is no need to worry about the massive amounts of debt incurred by the United States. His mishaps with the Benghazi terrorist attack on a U.S. Consulate office are indicative of Obama’s refusal to take accountability too. At first the President stated that the attacks were backlash from a movie that parodied the Islamic prophet Mohammed and then blamed intelligence agencies for faulty information. Now it’s looking more like the administration had knowledge that the attacks were occurring but chose to not defend the consulate or even turn back the terrorist assault.

The President likes to avoid the truth as much as Oprah Winfrey. Consequently, since faith is the basis for their logic both Obama and Winfrey refuse to take any accountability for their actions or decisions. The Wall Street Journal published an excellent editorial outlining how Barack Obama’s actions are grounded in postmodernism. As the editorial points out, he is obviously familiar with the philosophy in light of the fact that he taught in collegiate academia for many years. Postmodernism is a variant of skepticism that rejects objective reality in favor of a view that insists that everything is a matter of interpretation, that truth is relative and there are no absolutes.

How Oprah conducted herself is similar in many ways to how Ayn Rand describes the role of  the Witch Doctor in her essay Atilla and the Witch Doctor in her book For the New Intellectual. According to Rand, the Witch Doctor rebels against reason by attempting to ally with those who seek to conquer the Producers. The Witch Doctor subverts reason by purporting that one’s feelings rather than their senses can provide infallible knowledge of the universe. If reality clashes with what the Witch Doctor preaches, then the he/she ignores it. The Witch Doctor sets him/herself up as the authority on truth and subsequently convinces their followers to deny their own thoughts and ideas and blindly accept faith. The Witch Doctor presents themselves as the authority on right and wrong.

The widespread acceptance of altruism coupled with postmodernism leads to the acceptance of collectivism which results in constant suffering and even death. Despite the increased amount of people who identify themselves as having no religion or even atheists, people still embrace the false alternatives to reason and logic: skepticism and religion. Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey both rode waves of positive feelings and whim-worship in order to attain the prominent public positions they hold or once held. As a result of people looking to emotion rather than thought the result is the existence of suffering and death that both high profile individuals embrace. Barack Obama subscribes not only a postmodern but even egalitarian sense of life which means mediocrity and denying reality is the norm. Oprah Winfrey who played the role of Witch Doctor preached a New Age theology and then sanctioned Barack Obama’s Presidential candidacy as well as his ideas both of which are ultimately geared to enslave the productive in the name of altruistic sacrifice.

It is only fitting that both Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey have had their prominence diminished since both individuals believe it is through suffering and sacrifice that one attains salvation. It is abundantly clear people are rejecting the morally bankrupt messages of Obama and Winfrey espouse as evidenced by the demise of Oprah’s cable TV show and her media empire along with the decline of the popularity of the President. People have not, however, rejected the ethics of altruism. The one central thing that people must ultimately reject is not only the anti-life ethics of faith and religious belief but also altruism which is the morality of self-sacrifice that Witch Doctors (like Oprah) transmit.

While I am glad that the prominence of both Oprah and Obama is in decline, ultimately Oprah Winfrey is the one who deserves the most jeers. It is her doctrine of suffering grounded in religious belief that has been thrust on the country in which the Presidency of President Obama and the miserable results of his policies is an extension of Winfrey’s thought.

European Union Awarded Nobel Prize

The Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee announced that the 2012 Peace Prize will be awarded to the European Union. This is probably the straw that will break the camel’s back in terms of diminishing the credibility of this international award. The European Union is rife with the increasing popularity of Neo-Nazi movements and rising anti-Semitism as well as increased racial tensions to boot.

European Union governments are suffering from crushing debt where people are protesting any measures to scale back social welfare benefits that contributed to the region’s debt problems to begin with.

The Nobel Committee explains that the reason for the award was that the EU transformed Europe from a continent of wars to a continent of peace. However, the committee obviously chose to ignore the internal strife in countries like Greece, Germany, and Spain which the EU has done little to nothing to halt as well as the continent’s haphazard immigration policies.

This coming from the same body that also awarded Al Gore and Barack Obama Nobel Prizes as well.

Give me a break!

Benghazi Consulate Scandal?

Fox News has done a Special Report on the latest news related to the administration’s mishaps regarding the attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The State Department refused to implement stronger security measures at the diplomatic office despite repeated warnings and earlier jihadist offensives. The Obama White House also knew that the onslaughts were not protests but acts of terrorism but chose to deny that fact and, instead, layed blame at the feet of makers of a parody movie of the Muslim prophet Mohammed.

This is not only a damning indictment of the President’s judgement, but also calls into question his overall role as a leader including his credibility. Another shocking thing about this whole matter and should be another wake up call is the death of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens. As it turns out, Stevens was gay and the fact that the President of the United States would send a gay man to a Muslim country should be an indication to gays and lesbians everywhere of the lack of value Obama really puts on human life including people of different sexual orientations.

In Islam, being homosexual is not only a sin but also a crime. President Barack Obama has blood on his hands for the deaths of people at U.S. Embassies across the Middle East including the life of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens whose execution is sanctioned by Islam not only for being an infidel but also for being gay.

Mitt Romney Unbound

I was pleasantly surprised by Tuesday night’s debates. Mitt Romney presented himself as articulate, knowledgeable and strong-willed. I must admit that I was very concerned about how Mitt Romney’s Presidential campaign was being conducted and I think one of his biggest mistakes was allowing the President to define him early. As a result of the Obama’s smear campaign it badly damaged Romney early on. Thanks to his strong showing Tuesday night, Romney’s campaign and base have now been reinvigorated.

Fortunately, the debates are a way for candidates to bypass the media and directly address voters. The debate’s moderater Jim Lehrer came across as inept and did little to enforce many of the debate’s rules. However, because of Lehrer’s weak moderation the debate itself was a smashing success! Lehrer’s weakness enabled the two candidates to clearly contrast one from the other in which Romney concisely and consistently not only took Obama to task for the failure of his policies but demonstrated style and substance that the President obviously lacked.

Upon taking office, Barack Obama has been able to remain distant from such scrutiny and criticism to the point where the President obviously thought he could walk into the debate thinking it would be a one sided ordeal. Romney took charge from the start and, rightly, put Obama in his place. Consequently, liberals are in panic mode while the Obama campaign is conducting damage control.

There were some noticeable flaws in Mitt Romney’s logic. I was disappointed by his stressing the phrase by his Creator as to imply some sort of religious nature of the Declaration of Independence (when there isn’t). I also didn’t like his claim that you can’t have a free market without regulation and giving the example about people shouldn’t be able to open banks in their garages and make loans. I don’t think it was wise for Romney to make that point in light of numerous start up companies (like Microsoft) started off in people’s garages or even out of the trunks of people’s cars. Despite these minor flaws in his logic, at least Romney did point out: The private market and individual responsibility always works best. Romney discussed how a specific hospital improved the quality of care while holding down costs which would be replaced by the panel of bureaucrats created by the Affordable Care Act. Not entirely a full throated defense of capitalism but he made a very good case for free markets none the less.

In the end it was the overall substance and style of how the candidate(s) presented themselves that mattered and Mitt Romney did so handily. Obama has not only lost the ability to continue to define Mitt Romney but he will not get a good chance to recover. The wind is clearly at Romney’s back and the media now has to take him seriously since their filter is no longer credible.

Annoy the Media: Vote for Mitt Romney

Some conservative pundits are accusing the media of skewing poll numbers. I highly doubt it. Even Fox News (known for it’s conservative slant to news coverage and commentary) just released a poll showing President Obama leading Governor Romney in three battle ground states. After the close of the Democrat’s convention, it showed President Obama ahead of Romney by four points.

I do see where the critics are coming from. Republican strategist Karl Rove, for example, points out that the media polls showedPresident Jimmy Carter ahead even after being trounced in the debates yet Ronald Reagan ended up winning. In state races (like Ohio) Rove points to polls assuming Democrats are more enthused to vote than Republicans. Columnist John Nolte for Big Journalism at Breitbart observed that a CBS/New York Times poll showed a Democrat enthusiasm turn out of +9 per state which is higher than it was in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania during 2008. If there was a story, one would think the media would have reporters pounding the pavement in order to report voter, after voter stating they can’t wait to vote for President Obama back into office November 3rd.

There is one demographic, however, that has completely slipped under the media’s radar: white male voters. Columnist Keith Backer demonstrates (quite convincingly) that white males is where Obama is weakest and didn’t even bother showing up at the polls in 2008. However, the enthusiasm for this demographic is very high and, according to Backer, the Republican Party aggressively registered voters in battleground states that can effectively nullify any get-out-the-vote efforts on the part of the Democrat Party. This, along with increased voter contacts does not bode well for the President’s re-election campaign and if I had to guess, rather than the poll numbers being part of a conspiracy they are obviously due to media companies using demographics from last year to conduct their surveys. While the effect of the media’s continuous polls showing Obama leading Romney can have the effect of diminishing enthusiasm for Republican voters, I am hoping instead that they will hinder Obama’s base since it could breed overconfidence.

It is clear to me that the media does not like Mitt Romney and that is the best reason to vote for him and every Republican running for office. But if he is actually losing it is due to his message. Both he and Paul Ryan have attempted to make the argument that they are actually better qualified to save important government programs like Medicare. Mitt Romney has an additional liability since it was the healthcare plan he signed off as Governor of Massachusetts which was the model for President Obama’s healthcare plan. With this in mind it makes it extremely difficult for Romney to claim he will repeal Obama’s healthcare plan since Romney not only enacted it Massachusetts but also advocated for the Democrat’s healthcare scheme while it was being crafted. Both programs, however, are socialized medicine. They entitle people (whether the whole populace or just the elderly) to certain benefits while being financed with numerous taxes and penalties along with government debt.

If Republicans continue to not only sacrifice their principles for short-term gain, they diminish the thrust of a moral claim they could make later of upholding individual rights in some form. By sanctioning the false needs of others and removing individual responsibility overall, it makes it harder for them to come back later to make the case for limiting the size and scope of government. The Democrats, on the other hand, have principles (albeit stupid ones). They are the ones saying straight out what they want to do, how they will do it, and when it will happen. Unlike the Republicans, Democrats are not afraid to fall on their swords since to them, sacrifice is one’s highest noble calling. Leftists might end up collapsing of their own weight because (in the end) their plans won’t work but it certainly won’t stop them from continuing to try. If they can keep trying until it gets done right, the sacrifice of others (including the American people) is worth it.

Instead of looking to do things differently than Obama or save programs like Medicare, I think a Save America message would be more appropriate since Obama wants to drag the country down if not destroy it in true Leftist fashion. In 1972 the Democrats ran a hardcore socialist on their ticket named George McGovern. At the time, Ayn Rand remarked:

If there were some campaign organization called ‘Anti-Nixonites for Nixon,’ it would name my position … The worst thing said about Nixon is that he cannot be trusted, which is true: he cannot be trusted to save this country. But one thing is certain: [George] McGovern can destroy it.

I am of the same mindset regarding Mitt Romney (i.e. an Anti-Romneyite for Romney). Aside from his obvious gaffe of attempting to appeal to people by being a not-Obama, he would slow down the United States’ descent into a debt-ridden oblivion. Our economic condition will only worsen with Obama and if he is re-elected I have no doubt that he will accelerate the increasingly socialist course he has taken us on. Romney, on the other hand, might be able to change course but I will not hold my breath.
